When you kindly backed Reform and my candidacy in May, I made one promise to the hundreds of people I spoke to: that I would not let you down.
As a collective, that is exactly what we’re doing.
Labour’s plan to smash up Norfolk’s councils has been binned.
Today the Government confirmed it’s withdrawing the Local Government Reorganisation decision for Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Hampshire, admitting the legal case behind it didn’t stack up.
It NEVER did.
This wasn’t handed to us. Reform-led Norfolk County Council took out a judicial review and fought it, because we never believed carving Norfolk into three new unitary councils was anything but expensive chaos. That fight has saved Norfolk taxpayers £96 million. YES, we the council tax payer would have had to pay for this, minus the poultry £2.3m contribution that Labour offered.
And we’re not stopping there. Just last week we scrapped the £6.3 million Inner Circle contract, the consultancy deal signed off by the outgoing Conservative administration to manage the LGR transition Labour has now abandoned. Money for a plan that no longer exists.
Gone. The mountain of overspending and vanity projects the Conservatives allowed to build up over 14 years is truly staggering.
Two Labour and Conservative shaped messes cleared up in a fortnight shows what happens when people who actually care about the bill are in charge of paying it.
Thank you for all your support and more news coming soon.
